Keeping Your Dog Safe At Easter

Keeping Your Dog Safe At Easter

Remember to keep Easter Eggs and sweets high up out of reach of your dog. Never give your dog chocolate intended for human.

Why is Chocolate so dangerous for dogs?

Chocolate contains an ingredient called theobromine, which is naturally occurring chemical found in cocoa beans. Humans are able to metabolise theobromine, but dogs lack the vital enzyme required to break it down, which is why it can be really dangerous for dogs.

Always call the vet if you believe your dog to have eaten chocolate. Always keep the packaging if available.

Other sweets can be a risk, if they contain Xylitol. This is a sugar replacement found in foods such as peanut butter, sugar free sweets and many more. It is highly toxic to dogs.
